I'm Claire and I received a diagnosis of Multiple Sclerosis 8 years ago, which has made me reconsider my life, aims, hopes, fears AND my counselling practice. Nowadays I see more and more people who live with chronic pain or long term health conditions who seek support from someone who understands the realities of what this can be like. As one of may clients said, "it's about helping me along this unpredictable journey".
About me and my practice
I qualified as an integrative counsellor fifteen years ago and 'specialised' in being a generalist in my approach - so I talked (and still do) to anyone about anything. Although I say this, I have a particular interest and experience in loss and bereavement (encompassing loss of a family member or friend, but also loss of a job, role, sense of identity and belonging, and more recently, loss of physical abilities.
My personal life experience is very rich and varied - I have lots of 'history' which can help inform me when I hear other people's stories. These can be magnificent, sad and complex, but how about YOU as you survived your story and are still surviving it? How can we work together to help you maybe regain contentment and joy so you feel better about what the future may hold?
This can be particularly important if you are living with chronic pain or disability and its accompanying uncertainty.
