My name is Sharon. I am a Psychotherapeutic counsellor, Certified EMDR and DBT Therapist, and Clinical Supervisor. Im often described as an out of the box therapist because I focus on the individual rather than one specific modality. I believe therapy isnt one size fits all. I work with individuals and couples, offering both short and long-term support tailored to your needs.
About me and my practice
I am a calm, empathetic therapist who offers a safe, confidential space where you can feel comfortable to talk openly and honestly. I understand how difficult it can be to reach out, and I aim to provide a kind, non-judgemental environment where you feel truly heard and understood.
As a psychotherapeutic counsellor, I am trained to draw from a range of therapeutic approaches rather than working rigidly within one model. This allows me to tailor therapy to you as an individual, because I strongly believe that therapy is not a one size fits all process. Many of my clients describe me as an out of the box therapist, as I adapt my approach to best suit the person sitting in front of me.
I am a trained DBT therapist, which can be particularly helpful for those who struggle with intense emotions, emotional regulation, or who feel misunderstood by others due to how their emotions present. DBT offers practical skills to help manage feelings, improve relationships, and create more balance.
As an EMDR therapist, I also work with trauma, including PTSD and CPTSD, as well as anxiety, depression, unresolved grief, and other distressing life experiences. EMDR can help process difficult memories so they feel less overwhelming and no longer impact daily life in the same way.
With over 20 years experience working within mental health and social care settings, I have developed a strong understanding of a wide range of psychological and emotional difficulties. Alongside my professional experience, I have also navigated my own life challenges, which gives me a genuine appreciation of how complex and overwhelming life can feel at times.
Whether you are seeking short-term support or longer-term therapy, I will work at a pace that feels right for you, helping you move towards a more fulfilling and balanced life.
Experience
I have worked within social care settings, predominantly in mental health environments, for over 20 years. This experience has given me a strong understanding of the complexities people can face and the importance of compassionate, consistent support.
I currently remain an affiliate counsellor and group supervisor for a local mental health charity, as well as working alongside a nationwide suicide awareness charity. These roles continue to deepen my experience and commitment to supporting individuals during some of their most vulnerable times.
Alongside my professional background, I also bring lived life experience. I genuinely understand how daunting it can feel to open up to a stranger. Taking that first step can be scary, but it can also be the beginning of meaningful change and growth
