People come to therapy for many reasons. You may be facing anxiety, low mood, trauma, relationship difficulties or a major life changeor simply feel that something isnt right. I offer a warm, down-to-earth space where you can talk openly without judgement. As a pluralistic counsellor and hypnotherapist, I adapt our work to you, whether you need support with a current difficulty or want to explore deeper, longstanding experiences.
About me and my practice
Im a pluralistic counsellor and qualified hypnotherapist offering therapy in person in Cardiff and online across the UK. Pluralistic counselling recognises that different people need different things from therapy, so I wont try to fit you or your experiences into a predetermined model. Instead, well work collaboratively to understand what is happening for you and find an approach that feels useful, manageable and suited to your needs.
My style is warm, down-to-earth and straightforward. I aim to create a space where you can speak openly without feeling judged, analysed or pressured to have the right words. Therapy can involve exploring difficult experiences, but it can also include identifying strengths, learning practical ways to cope, understanding patterns and working towards meaningful change. We can focus on what is affecting you now, explore experiences from your past, or move flexibly between the two.
Alongside my counselling practice, I have worked within criminal justice for almost 15 years, supporting people facing complex circumstances, trauma, risk, loss and significant life changes. This experience has taught me the importance of seeing the whole person rather than reducing somebody to a diagnosis, behaviour or difficult period in their life.
I work with adults experiencing a wide range of concerns, including anxiety, low mood, stress, trauma, grief, relationship difficulties, low self-esteem, emotional overwhelm and questions around identity or purpose. You may be facing something complex and longstanding, or you may simply feel stuck and want a confidential place to work things through.
Whatever brings you to therapy, we will take things at a pace that feels right for you. You dont need to arrive with everything understood or know exactly what you want from counselling. We can begin with where you are and work it out together.
Experience
My experience spans counselling, hypnotherapy, criminal justice and community mental health and wellbeing. I hold a Level 5 Diploma in Therapeutic Counselling, am undertaking advanced study at Level 6 and am also a qualified hypnotherapist. I have provided counselling through private practice and the voluntary sector.
I have worked within criminal justice for almost 15 years, supporting people facing complex and overlapping circumstances. This has given me extensive experience of building trusting relationships with people who may feel judged, misunderstood or uncertain about asking for help.
In my counselling work, I have supported adults experiencing anxiety, intrusive thoughts, trauma, grief, low mood, low self-esteem, emotional overwhelm, workplace and relationship difficulties, substance use, questions of identity and major life changes.
As a pluralistic practitioner, I draw upon different therapeutic approaches according to each persons needs. These include person-centred therapy, Acceptance and Commitment Therapy, CBT, DBT-informed work, solution-focused approaches, Gestalt techniques and trauma-informed stabilisation. Hypnotherapy can also be incorporated where appropriate and agreed.
I am also a Board Director responsible for mental health and emotional wellbeing within StrongDads CIC. While mens mental health and fatherhood are particular areas of interest, my counselling practice is inclusive and open to adults of all backgrounds, identities and circumstances.
