Anxiety, low mood, trauma, stress, grief, relationship problems, a big life change, or just a sense that something isn't right: whatever brings you, I offer a warm, down-to-earth space to talk without judgement. I see adults online across the UK and in person in Cardiff, including walk-and-talk sessions, on weekday evenings and at weekends. My approach is pluralistic, so we work out together what will help. We start with a free phone call, with no pressure to book.
About me and my practice
I'm a pluralistic counsellor and qualified hypnotherapist. Pluralistic counselling recognises that different people need different things from therapy, so I won't try to fit you into a set model. Person-centred counselling is the foundation, and from there we work out together what is going on for you and what is likely to help.
My style is warm, down-to-earth and straightforward. You can speak openly without feeling judged, analysed or pressured to find the right words. Some sessions are about exploring difficult experiences, others are more practical, such as learning ways to cope or noticing patterns. We can focus on what is happening now, look back at the past, or move between the two.
I work with adults of all backgrounds, women and men alike, with anxiety, low mood, stress, trauma, grief, relationship and family difficulties, low self-esteem, emotional overwhelm, substance use and questions about identity or purpose. You might be facing something long-standing, or you might just feel stuck and want a confidential place to think things through.
Online sessions are by Zoom, Teams, FaceTime or WhatsApp video, anywhere in the UK. In Cardiff you can see me in counselling rooms on Whitchurch Road, or we can walk and talk outdoors if sitting in a room isn't for you.
You don't need to arrive with everything worked out. We start where you are and take it at a pace that feels right for you.
Experience
I hold a Level 5 Professional Diploma in Psychotherapeutic Counselling Practice, I'm currently studying for a Level 6 Diploma in Psychotherapeutic Counselling, and I'm a qualified hypnotherapist. I'm an accredited member of the National Counselling and Psychotherapy Society. I have counselled adults in private practice and in the voluntary sector.
My background also includes almost 15 years as a criminal justice professional, working with people facing trauma, loss, risk and big changes in their lives, often people who felt judged or unsure about asking for help. That work taught me to see the whole person rather than a diagnosis, a behaviour or a difficult period in their life.
In my counselling work I have supported adults with anxiety, intrusive thoughts, trauma, grief, low mood, low self-esteem, emotional overwhelm, workplace and relationship difficulties, substance use, questions of identity and major life changes.
As a pluralistic practitioner I draw on person-centred therapy, CBT, Acceptance and Commitment Therapy, DBT-informed skills, solution-focused work, Gestalt techniques and trauma-informed stabilisation, depending on what suits you. Hypnotherapy can be part of our work where we agree it fits.
I'm a Board Director of StrongDads CIC, supporting its mental health and emotional wellbeing work. Men's mental health and fatherhood are particular interests of mine, and my practice is open to all adults.
