About me and my practice
My name is Gulsan Abubakar Karbani, founder of AlHaqiqa Counselling & Psychotherapy. I am a PNCPS Accredited therapist dedicated to helping individuals, couples, and families work through emotional and psychological challenges in a safe and supportive environment.
At AlHaqiqa, therapy is approached as a collaborative process where each person is met with empathy, respect, and understanding. I believe every individual has a unique life journey, and therapy should honour that uniqueness while creating space for healing, self-discovery, and meaningful growth.
I support clients facing anxiety, stress, depression, trauma, grief, relationship difficulties, family conflict, emotional distress, low self-esteem, personality-related challenges, and important life transitions.
I offer therapy both in-person from Didcot, Oxfordshire, as well as online sessions across the UK. I also provide multilingual support in English, Urdu, Arabic, Gujarati, Hindi, and Punjabi, helping clients communicate comfortably in the language they feel most connected with.
Experience
I bring over 40 years of professional experience supporting individuals and families through emotionally complex life experiences. For 35 years, I worked within the NHS as a Principal Genetic Counsellor, where I provided guidance and emotional support to individuals and families facing highly sensitive healthcare and life decisions.
This extensive background strengthened my understanding of compassionate communication, emotional resilience, and the importance of person-centred support during challenging life circumstances.
Alongside my NHS career, I developed a dedicated counselling practice focused on supporting mental and emotional wellbeing through evidence-based therapeutic approaches. Over the years, I have worked with a wide range of concerns including anxiety, trauma, stress, grief, relationship difficulties, family conflict, emotional wellbeing, pregnancy and postnatal concerns, infertility support, and personality-related challenges.
